Writing a Book to Support Your Business

So today’s topic is how a book supports your business.

My client Jeff Bangerter, financial wizard, wrote Tenants, Toilets and Trash. He has since reprinted I believe about 7,000 copies. No, it’s not an Amazon best seller. No, it’s not a “best seller” at all in the traditional sense. So, why has he ordered 7,000 copies or more? Because Jeff does financial seminars and uses the books as a giveaways to educate others on a complicated subject. Those readers turn into clients. Jeff was less interested in book sales than he was in attracting more business. Client revenue adds up way more than a book sale.

When should you consider either having a book written for you or writing one yourself that will support your business?

When you have a complicated subject, a book supports your educational efforts
. Bangerter’s book is a resource to explain and guide people to invest in properties using the Delaware 1032 Exchange Under the Statutory trust. If your business requires client education than a book is an excellent tool and resource to give them to read about on their own. It works for Jeff, as is evidenced by his investment in so many books.

When you’re trying to build a platform. A platform is almost like it sounds. It’s your basis and provides tools that support your business or even point-of-view. In this case, your book becomes a part of your overall business and supports your messages to the world. It also gives you something to sell and create passive revenue, the writer’s dream.

When you’re trying to create newsworthiness for your business. Just saying, “Here I am” won’t catch anyone’s attention. However, a book and a point-of-view on an important topic will do the deed on your behalf. Try to pick a topic that relates to your business, but also touches on something important in our culture, politics, or personal lives.

When you want to build credibility as a subject matter expert. People take authors very seriously. Whether you feel like an expert or not, once you write a book, people will automatically call on you as an expert.
