1. What is your book Dropped-Off Dog (A Mostly-True “Tail”) about? My book is about the real-life situation of so many abandoned animals. It is a chance for the reader to develop a sense of empathy for the animal who has relied on its humans to care for it and meet its daily needs of food, water, shelter, and love. Maslow identified these needs in human beings long ago, and we are just recognizing that domesticated animals have adapted to our world and now require them too. Dogs especially, are social animals and abandonment is difficult for them. Cesar Milan has told us to be “good pack leaders” and that’s what dogs (and some cats) expect from us. The dog in this story had been loved by someone and then, perhaps due to difficult circumstances, the humans in its life made an irresponsible decision and left it to fend for itself or become someone else’s responsibility. I am only pointing out and bringing awareness to a very real occurrence. Everywhere you go the...

*****Five Star Review, Readers' Favorite: The Little Bear Who Wanted to Fly

Image
Reviewed By Joy Hannabass for Readers’ Favorite There once was a little bear named Cubby who had big, big dreams. Bigger than he could ever imagine! You see, Cubby Bear wanted to learn to fly. He could do it, couldn’t he? As he sits high on his tree branch, looking out through the forest, he sees two of his friends watching him, probably wondering what he was up to. Couldn't Cubby Bear see that his friends were worried about him and wondering why he was acting so strange lately? Would little Cubby Bear let them in on his thoughts and secrets so they could help him? This is the cutest story for little ones. The first time my now 6-year-old niece saw it, I ended up reading it to her about 5 or 6 times. Then she sat for an hour or more looking at the pictures, making up her own stories. This is a big book with an awesome message for those who read it. In The Little Bear Who Wanted to Fly, Cubby, Chatter and Crunch show kids of all ages that it is okay to dream, and ...

Good Problems to Have with a Hot-Seller Book

Image
The fantastic problem in the book world: running out of copies of your book. Dropped-Off Dog (A Mostly-True "Tail") by Catherine Lagorio is the best example of a hot seller and keeping up with demand. In publishing you try to stay ahead of print runs to ensure you maintain stock. In this book's case, it has been off press about two months and selling hotter than hot cakes. As we've juggled and shuffled books back and forth to meet demand, she hit her "out of inventory" moment this morning. So congrats! The good news we pre-ordered more copies. The trepidation -- timing the new order to the demand. Ah, the life of a hot-selling author! You do have to smile though. Give us a few days and then pick up your own copy of this sweet and endearing book about pet homelessness. Find out why she ran out of her first print run so quickly.
